Safeguard your maritime operations
With international waters becoming increasingly impacted by interference and intentional jamming, mitigating these threats is paramount to achieving continuous, reliable operation and ensuring ship and crew safety.
Helix Geospace specialise in producing GNSS anti-jamming and resilient digital compass solutions that address these needs, and with applicability across a wide variety of maritime operations ranging from shipping, to offshore platforms, to unmanned surface vessels.
GNSS importance to maritime

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) such as GPS and Galileo provide crucial positioning data for navigation in modern maritime operations.
Most commercial vessels have long operated with limited crew and frequently depend on autopilots driven by GNSS to maintain course and navigate more complex routes.
GNSS is also fundamental to the Automatic Identification System (AIS) fitted aboard more than 1.6m merchant vessels and passenger ships for broadcasting the vessel's position, speed, heading, and identity to other vessels in the vicinity.
GNSS interference & jamming poses a serious risk
In both cases, GNSS disruption through jamming (signal denial) and spoofing (providing false information) compromises positional accuracy, increasing the risk of collisions and groundings that may lead to oil spills, or vessels unintentionally violating territorial waters.

GNSS interference reaching epidemic proportions

Incidents of GNSS interference have surged since 2022, to more than a 1,000 ships per day and now affecting all main commercial shipping corridors around the Eastern Mediterranean, Red Sea, Persian Gulf, and the Black Sea.
Insurance premiums are doubling or tripling for certain high-risk routes, with some underwriters limiting the maximum value per vessel or per transit they're willing to insure, and potentially some routes becoming uninsurable causing ships to reroute increasing voyage times and cost.
An even bigger concern is the impact a single GNSS interference event could have on multiple vessels simultaneously. In high-value, high-risk environments such as ports where GNSS is used extensively for vessel navigation and docking, GNSS disruption could result in collisions costing billions of dollars in hull and cargo damage.
GNSS more broadly is fundamental to many other maritime operations including its extensive use by offshore drilling and construction vessels for maintaining station with cm to sub-meter accuracy; any loss of signal potentially creating numerous environmental and safety hazards.
The issue of GNSS disruption within the maritime sector has reached a tipping point, with the International Maritime Organization flagging it as a serious risk, and 90% of mariners in a recent Royal Institute of Navigation survey indicating that they've lost trust in GNSS systems.
